Farmers

In 2015 BWC established Urban Farms to protect and restore vulnerable, undeveloped land to increase food sovereignty in the city of Brownsville by teaching families to farm and increasing the amount of locally grown food.
Urban Farm participants spend about one year learning to farm through this program. Participants are provided hands-on training, equipment, tools, compost bins, work tables, and greenhouses so that they can create their own organic transplants and seeds. Rain harvest equipment and irrigation system are also made available.
Urban farmers produce an abundance of organically grown fruits and vegetables to sell at the Brownsville Farmers' Market and to local restaurants such as:
